![]() ![]() According to the WHO, the 11th revision is the result of a collaboration with clinicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, coders, classification, and IT experts from around the world. ICD is the international standard for systematic recording, reporting, analysis, interpretation, and comparison of mortality and morbidity data. There is also an increasing need to operate in an electronic environment, as well as the need to capture more information for morbidity-use cases. Unfortunately, ICD-10 is clinically outdated despite the updating process, and some chapters need structural changes. But, ICD-10-CM was not fully implemented in the United States until 2015. It is important to note that ICD-10 was adopted by the WHO and the World Health Assembly in 1989.
